Valkyria Revolution: Will it be rare?
Author: Nir Regev Publication Date: 02/04/2018
Valkyria Revolution will likely be a rare video game in the coming years as a niche title in a already relatively niche series. Does that meanValkyria Revolution will soar to astronomical heights in the reseller market? Unlikely, even the most expensive Valkyria Chronicles related item on Ebay at the time of this post is selling for $199.95 + shipping [and that's from the VGA Grading mostly].
Regardless of the lukewarm reviews on Metacritic [55 Critic Score, 6.0 User Score], the title will come to be a rare find in a few years from now. After its initial print run sells out at a reduced cost [$11.60 to its original $29.99], there's unlikely to be a second one arriving. Meaning, Valkyria Revolution will potentially be an obscure video game to locate.
Player Advice: If you're interested in dabbling in the easily accessible gameplay, $11.60 is an excellent price. Can it go lower? Probably not, it may also sell out if you care about new sealed copies. Some players of the game have complained of the spinoff being too different in gameplay than the original and of its many cinematics. However, at the $11-$12 dollar range you're getting a beautifully animated Dynasty Warriors-like SEGA title with RPG elements. Not something to think twice about if you wanna try Valkyria Revolution.
Reseller's Advice: If you're looking to rake in the big bucks from a potentially low risk, high reward item look elsewhere. Valkyria Revolution's lukewarm reviews and word of mouth on forums have considerably lowered its overall resale value. Consider also that have the classic Valkyria Chronicles and its remastered edition do not really fetch absurd figures and you're playing the long game at best.
Collector's Advice: Low print run, niche spinoff, means Valkyria has a limited shelf life both online and in retail when it comes to sealed copy form. If you're a collector looking the time to act is now, particularly if you want the Vanargand Edition from Best Buy. You'd be surprised how quickly readily available price reduced items vanish into the pre-owned only stage, it's already sold out at the moment at GameStop and Target.
