Capcom’s Resident Evil 7 is selling exponentially well. Over three million copies have shipped worldwide to date and no signs of stopping the rainmaker.
Resident Evil is back and came out swinging with lucky number seven. Capcom is reporting Resident Evil 7 biohazard has shipped an impressive 3+ million copies worldwide. The series is clearly going through an immense sales resurgence as the brand revitalizes its image. In recent years Resident Evil has seen mounting pressure on its market share from TV ratings darling The Walking Dead and Naughty Dog’s masterpiece The Last of Us.
Zombies are more than just en vogue, they’re here to stay. No longer niche but rather thoroughly mainstream. Resident Evil 7 biohazard sought to regain its market presence by going back to its roots, unadulterated, unfiltered pure horror. Capcom has taken advantage of the latest available technology in PlayStation VR to expand the possibilities for immersion in a way never before seen. Fans have responded in kind to the shift to a series-first perspective change from third-person to first-person.
Series Notes:
– Over 76 million total cumulative units of the Resident Evil franchise have now been sold.
– The first Resident Evil was released on Sony’s PlayStation in Japan on March 22, 1996 as Biohazard.

You’re seeing the world through the protagonist’s eyes for the very first time in a Resident Evil game. It looks like Capcom has been watching their rivals perhaps taking in a lesson from the spectacle that was Sega’s Alien Isolation.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter has similarly come out at a perfect time at the box office. The film rendition of the series starring lead actress Milla Jovovich has grossed over one billion dollars globally. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is the sixth release in the successful Hollywood film franchise.
Capcom’s Stock on the Tokyo Stock Exchange is currently at 2,335.00 JPY (3:00 PM GMT+9) at the time of publishing.
